Lifestyle Tools
Achieving daily health & wellness goals
Lifestyle Tools help people make better choices throughout their day to reach their well-being goals. We develop these wearable sensor-based tools both in-house, like the Power Challenge that demonstrates how our digital health feedback system can motivate daily positive behaviors, and through non-exclusive partnerships with companies seeking to make their products interactive and highly personalized.
One of our partners, Avery Dennison Medical Solutions, is developing the Metria™ Wearable Sensor Technology, a healthcare platform that utilizes Proteus wearable sensors and feedback software. The Metria team works with business-to-business customers to create consumer- and professional- facing health products. One of their first products to come to market is a patch-based physiologic sensor for BodyMedia.
Avery Metria™ for BodyMedia
A window into your lifestyle
Avery Dennison Medical Solutions is collaborating with BodyMedia, Inc. to develop a novel application of Metria™ Wearable Sensor Technology. The product adds BodyMedia’s proprietary health data processing capabilities to the Metria patch, which leverages Proteus Digital Health wearable sensor technology. The result is a compact, lightweight and disposable 7-day body monitor patch solution built exclusively to address consumers who want to lose weight and live healthier lives.
The product will track key lifestyle indicators such as calorie burn, steps taken, activity levels and sleep patterns through multiple sensors integrated into the patch that collect more than 5,000 data points per minute. Designed to be both low cost and easy to wear, the integrated sensor and tracking technology is being deployed initially as an evaluation tool for weight management. The product will be available to consumers in early 2013.
Power Challenge
The motivation game
The Power Challenge is a motivational bio-feedback game designed and built by Proteus Digital Health that awards users ‘power points’ for engaging in healthy behaviors. We created this game to demonstrate the rich behavioral change capabilities of our technology. It leverages many gaming principles, including points tracking, progress feedback, competition, and rewards.
During the game, players wear a ‘power patch’ sensor that enables data such as heart rate, steps taken, sleep and rest to be tracked over the challenge period, and swallow ‘power pills’ on a regular schedule to simulate the adherence challenges that many patients face on a daily basis. Points are regularly uploaded to a web-based ‘leader board’. The person who amasses the most points chooses a charity to which all players donate funds.
We have run Power Challenges with a variety of our partners. Each one has been deemed a success, providing critical insight into our feedback system’s potential, providing a valuable and fun team building experience, and helping to support worthy causes.
